I have chosen to represent these ideas through the combination of animals to help create animal awareness and for my love of animals.

Darwin investigated the role of hybridity in determining species limits. Observing how inter-species variation related to geographical location. The extinction of animals happen everyday. People become so caught up in their own busy worlds, that the thought of a polar bears’ habitat melting away is forgotten. I will recreate a new set of species by combining animals, to question, that maybe these combinations did exist or still could exist for example a hyena mixed with  a porcupine.

My work has a ‘point of view’ and with sensitivity toward appreciating my surroundings, these specifically chosen visual images will be developed into street art. By paying attention to detail, pasting will allow me to capture the slightness as well as enlarge an observation.

Turning my art into street art is just one of the ways I want to stir imagination and provoke thought in a playful and aesthetically pleasing way. To reach out to all different people by pushing the pen line out into open air instead of the safety of within a book cover. Combining drawings with the environment will help compliment the imagery. Surface and texture become increasingly important, small details will challenge the initial assumption, and meaning will be re-assessed and newly defined.The physical concept of a paste speaks for itself with its vulnerability to the elements and completely submerges itself into an environment.
In a similar way it will be tested to survive, like most animals, it will naturally deteriorate due to its surroundings. We not only have a voice, but also the choice to protect what we have.

With this exhibition I have carefully chosen various places around Cape Town to paste my art so that it can work with the environment. As if I were creating a natural habitat for each creature. I will establish and form a synchronicity between the surface and the artwork. A repeated theme of where two different ‘things’ become one.
The longevity of the pastes echoes the state at which our animals are becoming harmed and extinct. Some animals can survive and adapt while others simply cannot.
Robert Rauschenberg has been a major influence towards the development of my work. Pushing boundaries of experimentation will establish greater understanding of where my work fits into the environment.
